Jake Carraway

PBLA Team: Charlotte Bootleggers

At what age did you first start playing lacrosse, and what was the first lacrosse team you ever played on (and where, meaning, city and state)?
4 years old, Annapolis Youth Lacrosse Association (AYLA), Annapolis, MD

What are you looking forward to the most in the first season of the PBLA, and why?
In my entire lacrosse career, I’ve never played on a box team / truly experienced the indoor game at an elite level. I’ve always wanted to play and felt that a part of my lacrosse career was missing due to the absence of box lacrosse. I’m really excited to finally have an opportunity to play this variation of the game, learn from some of the best guys in the sport, compete at a high level and make new friends.

What would you say is the strongest part of your game?
Shooting

What is the biggest adjustment going from field lacrosse to box lacrosse?
Personally, I’ve always been a grip-it-and-rip-it stretch shooter. For indoor, I’ll need to take some heat off of my shot and focus on more deceptive/precise finishing. Adapting to the different offensive flow will be a big adjustment as well. Indoor is centered around the pick, slip, screen game in very tight quarters. I’m used to having a lot of room to work with in field lacrosse.

Even though athletes always talk about “team first,” have you set any personal goals for this first season in the PBLA?  If Yes, please share at least one.
I think my biggest personal goal is just trying to learn as much as possible from the experienced players around me. I’m brand new to this thing, so getting up to speed and making a meaningful contribution quickly is the most important personal goal for me at the moment.

On a scale of 1-10, with one being “not at all” and ten being “embarrassing, I shouldn’t even play,” how nervous will you be on the night of your team’s first game and why?
2-3. Given it’ll be my first ever professional indoor game, having some nerves is good.. shows you care. But once the first whistle blows … I’ll flip a switch .. and that is when preparation meets opportunity. Confidence is key!

If you could have a song play every time you score a goal, which would you pick (title and artist)?
Turn My Swag On-Soulja boy

If it’s up to you, what do you choose to eat as your pregame meal?  (specifically, not just “something healthy”)
Chicken and goat cheese panini (Char-grilled chicken breast, goat cheese, avocado, arugula, virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar). 🔥

Who is your closest friend on your PBLA team?  Is there a history there?
Not sure I have a “closest friend” on the team. There are a lot of guys I’ve known for a while and played with (Mark Cockerton, Marcus Holman, Dylan Maltz), and there are a lot of new faces I look forward to getting to know/making friends with.
